“FAMILY OF LIGHT”
We gather not as strangers,
But as brothers and sisters,
Threads in a single tapestry,
Hands in a circle of care.
Here, goodness is not a dream,
But a deed —
Bread shared,
Tears carried,
Songs lifted together.
Here, family is not by blood alone,
But by the Spirit who binds us,
Who whispers,
“You belong.”
And when our time comes
To step from shadow into glory,
We will not lose,
We will not fall,
We will rise into the arms of Jesus —
Where family is forever,
And goodness never ends.
TABITHA’S STORY REFRAMED
• She had “won the lottery” of eternal life.
• Called back not for her comfort, but for her family’s need.
• Resurrection wasn’t gain for her, but grace for them.
DO GOOD
• Tabitha remembered for simple acts of kindness.
• Goodness is not about status or speeches, but love in action.
• What “small good” can you do this week?
BE FAMILY
• The believers wept, remembered, and prayed together.
• God values the family of faith.
• Who needs your support in our fellowship this week?
THE PATTERN OF RESURRECTION
• Elijah, Elisha, Jesus, Peter, Paul… each raised someone back to this world.
• Always for the sake of others, never for the comfort of the one raised.
• Only Jesus rose to eternal life — the “firstfruits” of the harvest to come.
RESURRECTIONS IN THE BIBLE
• Son of the widow of Zarephath — raised by Elijah (1 Kings 17)
• Son of the Shunammite woman — raised by Elisha (2 Kings 4)
• Man who touched Elisha’s bones — revived at the prophet’s tomb (2 Kings 13)
• Jairus’s daughter — raised by Jesus (Mark 5 / Luke 8)
• Widow’s son at Nain — raised by Jesus (Luke 7)
• Lazarus — raised by Jesus (John 11)
• Many holy people — raised at Jesus’ resurrection (Matthew 27)
• Tabitha (Dorcas) — raised by Peter (Acts 9)
• Eutychus — raised by Paul (Acts 20)
• Jesus — raised by the Father, through the Spirit (all Gospels)
THE SUBTEXT
• For the Christian, death is not losing.
• Death is winning the true lottery — eternal life with Christ.
• Until then: Do good. Be family.
“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Galatians 6:10)
1. When people remember you, what “good” would you like them to speak of?
2. Who in your church family might need you to be present for them this week?
3. How does seeing death as “winning the lottery” change the way you face the future?
4. Which resurrection story (other than Jesus) speaks most to you, and why?
Lord Jesus, you are alive, and your life is our hope.
Thank you for Tabitha’s example of simple goodness and family love.
Teach me to do good, not for recognition, but for love.
Teach me to be family, to carry others’ burdens and share their joys.
And when my time comes, help me to see death not as loss, but as gain —
the doorway into your eternal home.
Until then, may my life point to you. Amen.
